I've been seeing Monica since before 2000, when she was with the Broad St. Family practice and since she took it over and have never been disappointed by her commitment to my care and wellbeing, or in regard to the manner with which she speaks to and/or supports me. I have never felt judged or unheard. If anything, she has over-extended herself in past years to ensure I was in a good and well place during difficult times. Like others, I have been frustrated with excessively long wait times, have commented on that directly and know that they have been a source of concern for her too. The waiting has recently improved quite a bit. As for her staff person, Yvette, I've found her easy to get to know, direct in her approach and good overall with getting back to me. I was referred to Monica by a friend and since seeing her have referred others, family included, to her services.

Although I agree with many of the other patients that Dr. L'esperance is indeed a lovely, warm woman I would never put her in charge of anything more than the very basic of my health needs. She has proven to me on two occasions that she is completely incompetent and the last time she let me down it nearly cost me my fertilty! It is true about the referrals ~ PLEASE do not depend on this doctor. If you feel there is something very wrong with you I highly recommend that you go to a walk-in clinic to get the referral you need. (the South African doctors at the walk in clinic behind London Drugs lack bedside manner but take things seriously). Go to her for your routine check ups but never trust her with your overall health.(and yes, the waiting time once you are actually in the office is ridiculous and unfair).PS this doctor recommended TUMS to help me meet my calcium needs...yikes.

I have had similar frustrating experiences echoed by other frustrated patients here. Referrals take unusually long time or never went out of the office. The appointments are rushed. My condition got steadily worse until I went to emergency. They were also surprised it had taken so long for the doctor to act.She is definitely well intentioned however I cannot feel but a sense of incompetence when the situations are more complex. Also the work load of patients seems to be getting in the way of proper care. Rushed appointments and long waits for a follow up appointment. According to my experience I would also agree that I would avoid this doctor for anything complex or out of the simple assembly line health care that requires extra effort and pondering. I did not feel enough effort was invested in getting to the root of the problem and a reticence to refer to a specialist seemed puzzling in the context of my deteriorating health.

GREAT - long wait times though

I have received extraordinary care from Dr. L'Esperance during the years that I have been a patient in her practice. She is an excellent diagnostician and has identified at least a couple of disorders that other physicians have missed. Her examinations are thorough and carefully done. She never hesitates in referring me for tests or consultations with specialists, so my impression is that she leaves no stone unturned. I have never known her to prescribe an antibiotic for an uncomplicated viral infection, which I respect. I very much like her personality, which is friendly, calm, extremely polite and humble - definitely not the arrogant type of doctor that I have met a few too many times. She has a good sense of humour, without being flippant in inappropriate situations. Above all, Dr. L'Esperance is a caring, empathetic and sincere physician, and I feel very fortunate to have her as my family doctor.

Dr. Monica is a wonderful person, very caring and thorough. However, I have been waiting for almost 3 months for a specialist appointment and when I called her office to enquire whether the referral was ever made, I was informed that they would have to get back to me. When I pushed and asked whether it had been made 3 months ago, the receptionist more or less brushed me off saying she would have to speak to Dr. Monica.... I have been in agony for months - this is very infuriating.
